Students

Main Idea: The testing of our faith will require sacrifice. (Genesis 21:1-2; 22)

Summary
God tested Abraham’s faith by asking him to sacrifice his only son, Isaac. Even in Abraham’s old age, he still trusted God would deliver on His promise in some way. Regardless of how God chose to work it out, Abraham trusted God. God tests us because He loves us and wants to reveal more of His character to us. He also tests us because He wants you to be able to face sickness, death, heartache, persecution, and loss with full assurance of His faithfulness… whether things work out the way we want to or not, God is always faithful.

Review Questions
  1. How does testing show where our faith truly is?
  2. From Life Group Discussion: How does this story foreshadow what God would later do for us with His own Son?
  3. What’s the difference between Abraham and Isaac’s story here versus what Jesus actually did?

Adults

Main Idea: The Lord tests our faith so that it may be proven by obedience. (Genesis 22)
