Finding Peace in Election Season: A Christian’s Guide to Unshakable Faith

As Christians, the election season can be both challenging and an opportunity to reaffirm our faith. With political tension high and opinions everywhere, staying focused on Christ’s eternal kingdom offers us a peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7). When we center our hope in God’s unshakable kingdom, we rise above the anxieties that can distract us. Hebrews 12:28-29 reminds us, "Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful. By it, we may serve God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire."

Practical Ways to Keep an Eternal Perspective

1. Stay Attentive to God’s Voice
The Bible frequently emphasizes the importance of listening to God, especially in challenging times. Hebrews 1:1-2 tells us, "Long ago, God spoke to our ancestors by the prophets…but in these last days, He has spoken to us by His Son." God’s voice, revealed through Scripture and prayer, guides us to approach our world with love and wisdom, regardless of political divides. Dedicate time each day to reading the Bible and seeking God’s guidance. Ask, “Lord, how can I reflect your love today?”

2. Prepare for Shaking, Anchor in God’s Kingdom
Hebrews 12:26-27 warns us that all worldly things will be shaken, but God’s kingdom remains eternal. During an election, worldly uncertainties can create anxiety. To counter this, we need to be rooted in God’s kingdom, investing time in things that carry eternal significance—serving others, spreading kindness, and sharing the gospel. Reflect on how you invest your time and resources: Are they advancing God’s kingdom, or are they purely focused on personal gains? Regularly examine your priorities to ensure they align with an eternal perspective.

3. Cultivate Thankfulness
Gratitude shifts our focus from worry to worship. Hebrews 12:28 encourages us to be thankful for receiving a kingdom that can’t be shaken. Practicing thankfulness not only strengthens our relationship with God but also reminds us that His kingdom is our true home, not earthly political systems. Take a few moments each day to list things you’re grateful for and share those blessings with someone. Let your thankfulness be a witness to God’s faithfulness in all circumstances.

Applying These Principles in Election Season

During this election season, remember that our hope is in Jesus, not in any earthly leader. While participating in civic duties like voting is essential, our ultimate allegiance is to a kingdom that transcends any nation or political agenda. Romans 13:1 reminds us that all authority is established by God, and we can rest knowing He holds the future. In conversations about politics, strive to be a voice of peace and love, prioritizing unity over division.

This election, focus on God’s voice, prepare your heart for life’s uncertainties, and live with a thankful heart. These steps not only strengthen our faith but also set us apart as witnesses to the peace that comes from following Jesus. Through it all, trust that God is working out His plan for His people and His eternal kingdom.
