Preschool

Main Idea: Jacob fled from Canaan. (Genesis 28)

Summary
  • Jacob left his home. He stopped to sleep and used a rock for a pillow. Jacob dreamed about stairs going up to the sky. Angels went up and down the stairs.
  • God came to Jacob and said, "I will give this land to you and your family. People will be blessed by your family." Jacob woke up and said, "God is here!"
  • Years later, Jacob wanted to go home. One night, a man came and wrestled with Jacob. The man said, "Your name will be Israel." Then the man blessed Jacob.
  • Jacob went home. Jacob was finally in the land God had promised to give him.

Main Idea: Jacob fled from Canaan. (Genesis 28; 32)

Summary 
  • Jacob had to leave home after stealing Esau's blessing.
  • Jacob traveled toward Haran. He stopped to sleep. While sleeping, he had a dream. The Lord gave Jacob the same promise He had made to Abraham and Isaac.
  • Jacob got married and had a family.
  • God changed Jacob's name to Israel.

Students

Main Idea: Wrestling with God helps us know Him and be changed by Him. (Genesis 32-33)

Summary
After Jacob stole his brother Esau’s birthright, he was instructed to run away by his mother. While on the road, Jacob slept and dreamed he wrestled with God. Jacob was persistent in the struggle. He wouldn’t quit until God had blessed him. God blessed Jacob’s tenacity and changed Jacob’s name to Israel. God then ordained a moment for Jacob and Esau to reunite, and their relationship was mended.
